Metallic vs. Flake vs. Quartz: Which Epoxy Floor Is Right for You?

Three of the most popular epoxy systems, metallic, flake, and quartz, look and behave very differently. Here is how to pick the one that fits your space, your traffic, and your budget.

Metallic: the showpiece

Metallic epoxy floats shimmering color on clear resin, then we pull it by hand while it is still wet. The result is deep, moving color that catches the light and never repeats, so no two metallic floors are alike. It is the most premium option and the one people choose when the floor itself is meant to be the feature: showrooms, living spaces, and high-end garages.

Flake: the everyday workhorse

Flake (or "chip") floors are made by scattering color chips over a base coat, then sealing them under a clear topcoat. The texture hides scuffs and dirt, adds natural grip, and stands up to heavy traffic. Flake is the go-to for garages, gyms, stairwells, and workshops, and it comes in dozens of color blends.

Quartz: the toughest and most sanitary

Quartz systems pack colored quartz granules into a dense, thick surface, the hardest and easiest-to-clean floor we pour. It shrugs off impact and can be hosed down for decades, which makes it the standard for commercial kitchens, labs, and pool decks.
